My Favorite Things 2016

my-favorite-things-bannerHello again!

The months have whizzed by. A whole lot of life has happened between now and my last post. All those details will be for another day and another post. For now, I’m excited that my favorite link up party of the year is here! If you’re looking for a gift for someone or just a new product to try, I’m sharing my favorite things I discovered this year.

Jane’s Original Mixed Up Salt: Great product on anything but really tasty on popcorn!

J.Olive Company Oils and Vinegars: Each month, this company features a new combination. One of my favorites is Blood Orange Olive Oil and Cranberry Pear Balsamic. They offer reasonably priced sample packs to try their products.

Neutrogena Beach Defense Sunscreen Stick: A great product to keep in the backpack or purse if you tend to burn. No mess. Great for moms on the go too!

San Pellegrino Limonata Sparkling Beverage: A refreshing tart lemony drink – If you like sour lemon drops like lemon Zotz, you should like this drink. This company also carries a blood orange, grapefruit, and an orange flavor.

iRobot Roomba: Life changing- Enough said.

Book Darts: I learned about this little helper from blogger Modern Mrs. Darcy. A super product for a book lover or anyone who is trying to keep their place but doesn’t want to deal with bookmarks that fall out or bulk up the pages.

Rimmel Airy Fairy Lipstick: Right shade of nude pink plus it’s creamy and cheap!

Fun For Days Inside

Is it cold at your house?  The temperature is frigid here.  I found this sentiment on Facebook which totally sums up my thoughts for the week.

Since going outside is a bust, how about a few suggestions for this weekend?

We’ve been captivated and enchanted by the lovely Essie Davis in her role as Phrynie Fisher in Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.  Produced by an Australian company, the show is set in the 1920s.  We’ve been watching via dvds from Netflix since its not available in our market.  Please PBS pick it up!  If you love Downton Abbey, I think you’d love this series.

For those of you who would prefer to read than spend your time watching TV, Modern Mrs. Darcy has issued a reading challenge for 2015 that you might like to join.  Just click this link for more details.

Or maybe this weekend, you’d rather travel the world from your computer.

Stay warm and have fun!

Certainties of Christmas

A few certainties I’ve learned about Christmas over the years.  Maybe, you’ve learned them, too.  Feel free to add to the list in the comment section.

1. Christmas comes whether you’re ready for it or not.

2. There is no end to shopping or deals or the one last thing you need at the grocery store.

3. Not everybody will be happy with each other at the family gathering or with all of their presents.

4. Too much consumption of something will make you feel bloated and miserable.

5. The face of a child at Christmas is precious, no matter their age.

6. People will surprise you by their random acts of patience, kindness, and love.

7. Starbucks won’t have any of their sea salt left for their salted caramel hot chocolates since they ran out first of November.

8. Someone will forget to buy batteries.

9. Most people know the first verse to Christmas carols.

10. Kittens and puppies can’t resist chewing on the presents or low hanging ornaments on the tree.

11. Fresh evergreens smell wonderful but when dried out, they make a mess and are sticky.

12. Christmas cards are fun to receive in the mailbox.  Those with a handwritten note are extra special.

13. Some will have a difficult and sad Christmas.

14. Jesus’s birth will be celebrated and remembered by many around the world.

“This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.” 1 John 3:11 NIV Bible

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words but Only if You Can Find It

I was working on a post yesterday and I wanted to add the finishing touch of a picture.  I was certain I had one.  I pulled out the first box of pictures then, 5 boxes and 3 albums later, I conceded.  I didn’t have one.  I knew the picture had to exist.  I had it in my mind.  When I close my eyes, I can see the scene so clearly.  But, the reality is I don’t have a picture.  Disappointed and astonished, I chalked it up to one more instance of “ where are the pictures? “.

Does this situation ever happen to you?  You think you have the pictures only to discover you don’t?  This instance was not the first time I haven’t had the image I was wanting.  I realized this cycle had to end so I’ve put together a list of things to remember in order to stop the cycle.

Stopping the “Where are the pictures? ” Cycle List

  1. Make/Keep a list of pictures you’d like to take. By doing this small step, you’ll be sure to have the ones you want.
  2. Take more pictures than you think you need because you can always pare down later.
  3. Don’t assume someone else took pictures for you or the ones you wanted.
  4. Keep a camera close at hand.
  5. Capture images that will trigger memories like signs, favorite places or things, flowers in a yard, etc…
  6. Organize your photos to make them easier to find when searching for the one you want.
  7. Take pictures of everything.  If you’re a blogger who likes to include pictures in your posts, you never know what you will write about and wish you had a picture.
  8. Bonus: All these images are good for insurance purposes.

wheres the picture 3I’m not giving up my search. I’ve called in reinforcements!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

My Favorite Things 2013

Today, I’m joining in with other bloggers for Melissa’s annual Favorite Things Link up Party  @ 320 Sycamore.  This party that she hosts is one of my favorites that I look forward to every year.  This year, I’m sharing some products that are favorites I discovered this year and some that I’ve enjoyed for many years.

1. Pacific Organic Soup: This soup line is delicious.  I just discovered it.  I haven’t tried all of them but the butternut squash and the tomato are yummy.

Organic Creamy Butternut Squash

2. Bookmarks magazine is a wonderful way to find new books and read reviews.  I particularly like the “Have You Read” section where readers send in their lists.

5. Wet N Wild  Fergie Nail Polish in Going Platinum: All bright and shiny and perfect for the holidays {and later}.

Wet n Wild Fergie Nail Color Going Platinum6. The Good Home Co. Beach Days Hand Soap smells wonderful –just like the beach. A little pricey but on cold winter days –lifts your spirits of warmer days to come.

7. A Lighted Seam Ripper with a magnifier is an awesome thing when you make the number of mistakes I do sewing and have difficulty seeing those tiny stitches clearly.

Mighty Bright - LED Lighted Seam Ripper with Magnifier8. Yoga Mat Sanuk Flip Flops: The bed of the flip flop is made from yoga mats so they’re super cushy.
