Advent Season

Hey!

This morning, I’m beginning an Advent series @Sweeter Than Honey Ministry.  I hope you’ll click over and check it out.   Here’s a sampling below:

This past Sunday, the Advent season began.  Advent is a time of preparation and expectation as well as the beginning of our liturgical year.   The word is the anglicized term of the Latin word, adventus meaning arrival, visit, or coming.  During this season, we remember and reflect on the hope of a Messiah to come foretold throughout the Old Testament, we rejoice in His birth as the Christ-child, and we eagerly look ahead full of the hope of Jesus Christ’s return and all things made right.  I hope that you will join me in the celebration of Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah and our Savior.   Read more ….

Mimi

Simply September

Hey!

September was a month of new beginnings.

  • I started a new series of posts called Friday Finds.  Here’s a sample.
  • I started a Fall Bible Study Session at my other website, Sweeter Than Honey Ministry.  We’re currently in Week 4 of Children of the Day: A Study of 1 & 2 Thessalonians by Beth Moore.  You can check it out here.
  • And last but not least, I registered for a blogging 101 course online.

I also began working on a special project this month.  I can’t wait to share more details about it, but for now, they’ll have to wait.

One of the lessons I’m being reminded of this month is that I can’t do everything and sometimes that means I must say no to something that I really enjoy because I’ve said yes to others.  With that lesson, comes the reality that I can’t participate in this year’s 31 Day Challenge but I’ll cheer and applaud everyone else along.

The best fiction book that I read this month was a quirky, sweet story called The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion.

the-rosie-project-graeme-simsion-1

The main character, Don, reminded me of Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory.  Don decides he wants a wife so he puts together a questionnaire in an attempt to weed out the undesirables.  Rosie comes into his life with none of the qualifications that he is seeking and … ( I can’t spoil it for you. ) oh and beware, f-bombs fall.  Here’s a quote to give you a taste of Don’s personality.

“Throughout my life I have been criticized for a perceived lack of emotion as if this were some absolute fault….Occasionally an emotion can be enjoyed – the gratitude I felt for my sister, who visited me even during the bad times, the primitive feeling of well being after a glass of wine – but we need to be vigilant that emotions do not cripple us.  I diagnosed brain overload and set up a spreadsheet to analyze the situation.”

We’re loving these TV shows.

  • Scorpion — Nerds saving the world
  • Madame Secretary — Woman saving the world
  • Once Upon A Time — Fairy Tale Characters saving the world
  • Girlfriend Intervention — Sisters saving a basic woman from her bad wardrobe and decorating world.

I’m sensing a theme here….

delta 7 months

Delta is 7 1/2 months old now and this past weekend, her world got rocked when a little fluffy kitten decided to take up residence with us.  Delta really wanted to play and lick her face and nibble on her but she was having to learn to be gentle.  Life is so hard for a puppy.

An Invitation

Hey!

A year ago, I started another website called Sweeter Than Honey Ministry.  The site’s main objective is to provide a place where people can participate in an online bible study community.

The beauty of this format is that participation can be done any hour of the day.  You can participate in your work attire during your lunch break, your robe and slippers at 5am, or your comfy clothes late at night.  For those who are ill or have other physical difficulties that prevent them from attending a class, having the opportunity to participate online is a gift.  A real community of encouragement and accountability can form and thrive in the midst of this crazy, wonderful online world while taking a study together.

I’d like to personally invite you to participate in the upcoming Fall Bible Study Session.  We will begin on Monday, September 8th.  Our study is Children of the Day, a study of 1 & 2 Thessalonians, by Beth Moore.  I’d love to have you join in!  Click here for more details on joining the bible study.  If you can’t participate this fall, I archive the studies so you can view the posts at your convenience.

If you’d like to check out Sweeter Than Honey Ministry, click here.  The site also has a Facebook page, here and a Pinterest site, here.   Come by and say hi!

Blessings,

Mimi

Things I Learned in September

Hey!

September has 30 days, right?  ‘Cause the month felt like 10 days tops!

Today, I’m joining in a link party sponsored by Emily about things I’ve learned in September.

1. This month, I’ve been on a HUGE learning curve on how to run an online bible study ministry.   Sweeter Than Honey Ministry took off and the response online and locally has been blessedly wonderful.   God has been so good!

2.  Tied into #1 and this blog moving to a new dot com site on Tuesday, I discovered I’m not as computer illiterate as I originally thought.  I was allowing my past failures with computer programming from 30 years ago influence my approach and attitude about the computer.  A small victory achieved by altering my perception and attitude.

3.  Making videos with my daughter was a blast in preparation for my 31 Day October Challenge —- Southern:  A Way of Life  31 Conversations — Mother and Daughter

4. Banff,, Alberta, Canada is really cold in September but absolutely breathtaking!

What did YOU learn in September?

Blessings,

Mimi

My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
