Last weekend, I joined 2,000 other legging-and -boot-wearing women in Austin, Tx to listen, learn, explore, contemplate, praise, worship, laugh, cry, and discover where God was leading each of us to take the next step. We were joined via livestream by tens of thousands of women from across the country and around the world from places as far away as Sweden,Rwanda, and South America. I’ve found it difficult to explain the conference in a way that articulates how I feel about my experience. God was powerful and in a very cliche religious expression; He showed up. Not in a strange way. Love was felt. Unity was felt. Community was felt. Worship was palpable.
The conference was a 2 day event. We heard tremendous speakers: Jennie Allen, Rebekah Lyons, Margaret Feinberg, Shelley Giglio, Jen Hatmaker, Bianca Olthoff, Jo Saxton, and Christine Caine, Informal, yet powerful conversations with these people: Lynne Hybels, Shauna Niequist, Esther Havens, Bob & Maria Goff, Angie Smith, April Smith, Laura Sobiech, and Jessica Sowards as well as others. Ann Voskamp prayed and Amena Brown shared her spoken poetry. Latasha Morrison modeled a table gathering for us as she and her friends discussed social justice and reconciliation. The praise and worship team was phenomenal led by Christy Nockels.
The event took place at Austin City Limits Moody Theatre.
A few notable quotes from some of the speakers based on Numbers 13 and Joshua 1-6.
“Live a different story.” Jennie Allen
“They couldn’t live into their promise because they didn’t know their identity.” Jo Saxton
“Revival begins with believers.” Rebekah Lyons
“We live out God’s kingdom to the fullness that we believe it.” “Real faith moves out of our hearts and into our lives. ” Jen Hatmaker
“There is never a wow factor with God if there has not been a woe encounter with God.” Ann Voskamp
“Your serving prepares you for what God has prepared for you.””Linger in the tabernacle” “Are you chasing a platform instead of a position?” Christine Caine
“One in a million made it to the promised land. Two million left Egypt but only two entered. What could happen if we believed?” Bianca Oltoff
The event was one of the best I’ve attended not just because of the religious content but because of the logistics. Every attention to detail was handled and run smoothly. I would love to return next year. I hope I can.
“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her.” Luke 1:45
