Wisdom From The Animals: Day 22

Wisdom From The Animals: Day 22

In addition to being physically strong, elephants are emotional and social creatures that form deep family bonds. They are also extremely intelligent with an ability to remember. Their memories serve to protect their herd from dehydration and starvation by remembering places to find food and water in the wild. Zoo keepers have also noticed that elephants seem to remember individual people as well as other elephants.

“I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” Isaiah 43:25

An elephant’s wonderful memory led someone to coin the familiar phrase; “An elephant never forgets.” Have you ever wondered what this world would be like if we could forgive others and forget what was done? I can forgive other people but I have trouble with the forgetting part. Any time the person does a similar act that requires my forgiveness a second or third time, I struggle with letting their wrong go. I’m not able to forgive like God can. I’m more apt to be like the elephant. Only with God’s help am I able to forgive and forgive and forgive again and not hold an account of wrongs.
